Find something to do in the 'ville
I'm Alan. I created this site. I'm a web designer and developer that lives in Walkersville. I own a business called Firestride where I create sites like this.
The reason why I created this site is simple. I miss a lot of great local events.
Event postings in Walkersville are very fragmented. You can find the majority on Facebook or Google, but sometimes they show up once then you'll never see them again. I wanted to create a place where all local events are posted in one list, day by day, without the need to open up that cesspool that is Facebook :)
Most events, I use tools to scan websites to grab the event listings. Some events, I have to enter manually. I also give organizations and individuals an admin panel to post events themselves, if they want. Check out the "Submit Events" portion if you'd like to post your own.
Okay, so this site is still in "beta" which means things might be broken or something might change just becuase I didn't like it. I'm still working on it! If it's broken, just wait - I'll probably fix it shortly.
It's hard collecting all these events in one area. Some events might not be updated up to the minute. I try to keep them as updated as I can, but if you're unsure about an event - please visit the event's actual website (if they have one, I include it in the event dropdown). I can't be held responsible for last minute changes or cancellations. I'll try my best, but with the sheer amout of events - it's difficult.
For now, everything is being done by me. Design, development, admin, and searching for events. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to present everything, so please be patient while I work thorugh some things.
First off, let me just say - posting any event is totally FREE.
Until I setup a more complete system, please email [email protected] if you'd like to submit an event. You can either send me a link to your event or I can give you a page to fill out.
If you would like an administration panel to submit multiple events, I can create one for you. You can create, edit or delete events yourself. This is more geared towards organizations that may need to post many events.
These are events that are unique (non recurring) events. They will show up in the sidebar 7 days prior to the event date and have a special callout on the event card. Only site admins can set featured events. When a featured evenet is clicked, the user will be taken to that event card.
You can have your event be a sponsored sidebar event. These events will appear 14 days prior to the event and be listed above the featured events. Sponsored events will stack by the date of the event, more recent at the top. When a sponored evenet is clicked, the user will be taken to that event card. You can purchase both sidebar and header sponsored events.
You can have your event be a sponsored header event. These events will appear 14 days prior to the event and be listed in the header of the website. When a sponored evenet is clicked, the user will be taken to that event card. You can purchase both sidebar and header sponsored events.
I'm currently offering 2 locations for sponsored events.
This spot puts your event in the header of the website 14 days prior to the event date. It's highest visibility area on the site for any event. The event card then pushes the user down to the actual event card - when the user clicks it. The main event card will contain all the info for that particular event.
These event sponsorships place the event in the sidebar above the 'featured events' section 14 days prior to the event. This spot shows the event title, date and time. When clicked, the user is then taken to the actual event card with all the event info.
These sponsorships help pay for the website hosting, development and work to insert all the events. They also help distinguish the more unique events from the others.
Please email [email protected] if you're interested. (I don't have any automated system setup yet!)
